The story behind Their Legacy

Their Legacy was born from love and the profound experience of parents going home. Our founder, La'Keshia Christian-Watkins, faced the enduring nature of grief after losing her mother, discovering a void in support for adult children navigating such loss. Simultaneously, as a human services professional, she witnessed seniors who, despite a lifetime of hard work, struggled to afford basic necessities, falling through gaps in existing government aid. Their Legacy stands to bridge both these spaces—to honor those who gave everything and to walk alongside the ones they loved. This is more than a mission; it is a calling and a privilege to serve.

Addressing invisible needs

The needs we serve are real, urgent, and often invisible. For adult children who have lost a parent, grief doesn't cease after the funeral; yet, dedicated programs and communities for their unique journey are scarce. This weight of loss manifests in quiet moments, identity shifts, and the ache of life without a foundational figure. For seniors, the crisis is equally silent. Millions of older adults, who contributed significantly throughout their lives, now face the inability to afford essential medications, utilities, groceries, or personal care. They earn too much for government assistance but not enough to meet daily needs.
